The instinct is blazing its trail, leaving its mark on our actions, thoughts and feelings. Backtracking these paths is an endeavor with an uncertain destination. After all, where could the invitation to a displacement activity come from and what is it that is being displaced? At the end myself or my restraints? How much power does this irrational act have in a time where the retaining of control seems to be essential in every aspect of our lives? With her interdisciplinary team, the Düsseldorf-based choreographer Karen Bößer devises a laboratory beyond habit-survey and gut feeling. Together with her colleagues, Karen Bößer is sneaking up on the instincts and is disassembling the various qualities of vivid human action. On stage one finds five rooms and three bodies in a collective dialogue with each other. It is setting the frame for a formal and at the same time sensuous dissection of our intention and intuition. And somewhere between the understanding of our instincts as a simple stimulus or an emotional sentiment, an inextricable tail remains. BASICS* examines how much room we can allow for our instincts and from what places they are still talking to us.
