D|S°DANCE film / 2021-22
March 2020: first lockdown. Home offices,
zoom meetings, streaming, virtual stages and bars - all over the world
people are catapulting their cultural and social lives onto the
internet. Karen Bößer is setting up a new ensemble. She wants to know
how it actually works when you want to produce something new at a
distance. Four performers at four locations are formed into one ensemble
via internet streaming - supported only by a technical suitcase sent by
post. Under Bößer's direction, their movements are captured with zoom
and mobile phone cameras, by bodycam and with the help of the
auto-follow mode. With much joy, humour, poetry and technology, they
reflect on the lockdown situation and experiment with the new
possibilities. Is it possible to create new performance art via
streaming? Is it possible to dance with each other at a distance?
The project is complemented by the film editing of concept artist
Dirk Dietrich Hennig, who combines the different narrative levels into a
unique experimental film debut. DIS°DANCE Film is an attempt to
overcome boundaries: Boundaries of space, of the physical, of
communication, of physical intensity, of empathy. What comes out of it
makes you want to break down all these limitations in everyday life as
well.
